Renouncing is a vital step in the healing journey. After we recognize the root issue, take responsibility, and repent, we must renounce every agreement we have made with anything that is contrary to the Word of God. To renounce means to formally reject, cancel, and declare that we no longer want any part of a thought pattern, belief, behavior, or spiritual influence that has held us captive.
Many people ask God to heal them while continuing to agree with the very thing that is contributing to their struggle. We may say, “This is just who I am,” or “I will always be this way.” But when those statements contradict what God says, they become agreements with lies rather than truth. Healing begins when we stop partnering with falsehood and begin aligning ourselves with the Word of God.
The prophet Isaiah wrote:
“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous one his thoughts. Let him return to Adonai, so He may have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
Isaiah 55:7
Notice that repentance involves more than changing behavior. It also includes forsaking unrighteous thoughts. Renouncing addresses the internal agreements we have made in our minds and hearts. It is the act of saying, “I reject this lie, and I choose to believe what God says about me.”
Renouncing is not about blaming demons for everything. It is about taking spiritual responsibility. If we have embraced fear, bitterness, rejection, shame, or self-hatred, we must deliberately reject those influences and remove their place in our lives. We cannot hold onto destructive beliefs and expect to walk in freedom.
The Scriptures teach us:
“We destroy arguments and every high-minded thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Messiah.”
2 Corinthians 10:5
Every thought that exalts itself above the truth of God must be confronted. If God says you are loved, you must renounce the lie that you are unwanted. If God says He is your healer, you must renounce the belief that your situation is hopeless. If God calls you forgiven, you must renounce every accusation that says you are beyond redemption.
Renouncing often sounds like this: “In the name of Yeshua, I renounce fear, bitterness, rejection, and every lie I have believed. I cancel my agreement with these things and choose to agree with the truth of God’s Word.”
This is not a magic formula. The power is not in the words themselves but in the heart that genuinely chooses truth over deception. Renouncing is a declaration of surrender to God and a refusal to remain in agreement with anything that opposes His purposes.
Yeshua said:
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32
Freedom comes when truth replaces lies. Renouncing is one of the ways we make that exchange. We let go of the old agreement and establish a new agreement with the promises of God.
As part of the 8 Rs Healing Pathway, Renounce prepares the way for deeper healing. Once we cancel our agreements with lies and ungodly influences, we are positioned to remove what does not belong, receive what God desires to give, and resist the enemy with renewed authority.
If there is an area of your life where you have been agreeing with fear, shame, anger, or hopelessness, begin today. Ask the Ruach HaKodesh to reveal the lie. Then renounce it and replace it with the truth of Scripture.
You do not have to remain bound to what God never intended for you. In Messiah Yeshua, you can renounce every false agreement and walk in the freedom, healing, and restoration that Adonai has prepared for you.
