“He forgives all your iniquity. He heals all your diseases.” Psalm 103:3
After we recognize the root issues, take responsibility, repent, and renounce, the next step in the 8 Rs Healing Pathway is Remove.
If renouncing is verbally breaking agreement with sin, lies, and destructive patterns, then removing is the practical action of getting rid of whatever continues to give those things access to our lives.
Renouncing says, “I no longer agree with this.”
Removing says, “I no longer keep this in my life.”
True healing requires both.
Why Remove Matters
Many people sincerely repent and renounce harmful influences, yet they continue to hold on to the very things that reinforce those patterns. They may keep ungodly relationships, unhealthy habits, occult objects, toxic media, or environments that continually pull them back into bondage.
Healing often stalls when we ask God to set us free while refusing to remove what is feeding the problem.
God calls us to cooperate with Him by removing anything that contradicts His truth.
“Therefore get rid of all moral filth and excess of evil, and receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”
James 1:21
Removing is an act of obedience that creates room for God’s Word to take root.
Removing Physical Objects
Throughout Scripture, God’s people were instructed to destroy objects associated with idolatry and false worship.
“You are to burn the carved images of their gods with fire.”
Deuteronomy 7:25
Sometimes healing requires removing books, jewelry, charms, statues, or other items tied to occult practices, false religions, or unhealthy soul ties.
In the book of Acts, many believers publicly destroyed items connected to their former practices.
“And many of those who had practiced magic collected their books and began burning them in the sight of everyone.”
Acts 19:19
When we remove what dishonors God, we make a clear statement that our allegiance belongs to Him alone.
Removing Toxic Relationships
Not every relationship is healthy.
Some people continually stir up fear, bitterness, manipulation, and compromise. While we are called to love others, we are not called to remain entangled in relationships that consistently draw us away from God’s truth.
“He who walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm.”
Proverbs 13:20
Removing may mean establishing boundaries or stepping away from destructive influences.
Removing Wrong Beliefs
Many struggles are rooted in false beliefs such as:
God does not love me.
I will never change.
I am rejected.
Healing is not for me.
These lies must be replaced with the truth of God’s Word.
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32
Removing includes intentionally rejecting lies and embracing biblical truth.
Removing Unhealthy Habits
Some habits open the door to ongoing emotional and spiritual distress.
This may include:
Negative self-talk
Pornography
Substance abuse
Gossip
Chronic fear
Unforgiveness
God may ask us to eliminate patterns that continue to nourish what He is trying to heal.
Removing Internal Clutter
Removing is not only external.
It also involves letting go of bitterness, resentment, offense, and emotional baggage.
“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be removed from you.”
Ephesians 4:31
When we remove these internal burdens, we create space for God’s peace and healing.
How to Remove
Ask the Ruach HaKodesh to reveal what needs to go.
Act quickly and decisively.
Destroy or discard objects connected to past bondage.
Set healthy boundaries.
Replace lies with truth.
Invite God’s presence to fill the empty places.
A Prayer to Remove
Abba Father, show me anything in my life that does not honor You. Give me the courage to remove every object, relationship, habit, and belief that opposes Your truth. Cleanse my heart and make room for Your healing presence. In Yeshua’s name. Amen.
Final Reflection
Remove is the step of clearing out what no longer belongs.
When we remove what is harmful, we make room for what is holy.
God does not ask us to remove things to deprive us. He asks us to remove them so He can fill our lives with peace, freedom, and healing.
“He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their pits.”
Psalm 107:20
As you remove what hinders healing, trust that the Lord will replace it with His truth, His presence, and His restoring power.
